Grant Will Strengthen Bioscience Research, Innovation

Lilly Endowment Inc. has approved an $80 million grant for unrestricted support to the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute (IBRI), a nonprofit, independent applied bioscience research organization based in Indianapolis focused on addressing the global health issues of metabolic disease and poor nutrition.

A portion of the grant - $45 million – is unconditional while the remaining $35 million is subject to dollar-for-dollar matching conditions to encourage contributions from life sciences businesses and their foundations. The support will help IBRI as it recruits leading scientists to work in the emerging 16 Tech innovation community in Indianapolis where IBRI will be an anchor tenant.

Founded in 2013, IBRI is forging collaboration between bioscience companies and academic research institutions in Indiana and around the world.

"IBRI holds great promise to enhance Indiana's position as a global leader in life sciences innovation with its novel model that will forge deep and synergistic collaborations among Indiana’s life sciences companies and research institutions," said N. Clay Robbins, chairman, president and CEO of Lilly Endowment.
